"Under staffing!"

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

All the nursing staff have, individually, been very pleasant but my care was affected by severe understaffing. Not once was a call bell on my ward answered within 30 minutes during the day. It's not because the staff aren't doing anything - they were all literally running to do what they can - but there weren't enough hands. IVs were not changed for hours, meds were several hours late more often than not. Handovers were very poor and there was no continuity of care. New staff did not introduce themselves and outstanding medical requests were simply forgotten. As for the doctors: my 48 hour post operative wound check never happened. This was critical as my wound was septic which is why I ended up in hospital.
