"Brought in by ambulance. No tests, no x rays, no..."

About: Hexham General Hospital

Brought in by ambulance. No tests, no x rays, no scans nothing. Kept waiting 5 hours for nothing and told my problems were medication reaction only. After 2 months it was found (not by Wansbeck) that I had suffered a stroke but Wansbeck could not find that because they ignored the required tests. Now under care of Hexham General I am told recovery will be very poor due to unacceptable delay caused by the doctor at Wansbeck.

Dear Terry,

Please forgive me - I have only just discovered that the review of care and shortfalls in our service that you identified 9 months ago has remained unanswered on the Patient Opinion webiste.

I am extremely sorry, this is not our usual practice - I usually try to respond to all posts as quickly as I can, out of respect for those who have taken the time to share thier views.

I see that the original story was from NHS Choices so I will try and find out from them what has happened in this case and why we weren't notified of your concerns in the usual way? There are a number of missed stories unfortunately - I am replying to all of them now - so it does appear that there has been a breakdown in communication across our elctronic systems somehow. I am sorry.

As a trust we have much to learn from all the patient feedback that we receive, so if you would still like to get in touch to share your concerns in more detail then I would be very happy to receive them. My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk

With apologies once again for the oversight and all best wishes to you in the year ahead,

Annie
