"No after care"

About: Clementine Churchill Hospital

From the first appointment at The Clementine Churchill I was made to feel inferior by being an NHS patient, not by the nurses and consultants but by the receptionists etc. I went in to have my procedure and was perfectly happy with the treatment I received on the day, although I wasn't given much aftercare advice. 2 days later I knew I had an infection so phoned the ward as advised and explained I was in incredible pain and that the wound was burning with a horrid smell. This was Thursday and I was told to bathe in salt water and phone back Monday if I was still having problems!! I went to my GP the following day who confirmed my infection and gave antibiotics. The following Wednesday I phoned the ward again saying that I was still in pain, unable to move without extreme pain and my stitches were still bleeding 8 days after my op. The nurse got in touch with my consultant and I was told he couldn't see me, I'd have to go back to my GP to be referred again or visit a and e. By Friday I couldn't take any more so went back to my GP who told me that my stitches had come apart and she faxed my consultant requesting that he see me urgently. I phoned his secretary several times explaining the situation but no one ever got back to me. By 3.30 I had haemorrhaged and rushed to a and e by ambulance. The hospital were shocked at the treatment I had received and explained that I should have had a double layer of stitches and didn't. I'm now on bed rest waiting to see if I can heal naturally. I would say think twice, having a nice single room and free tv comes at a high price when there's no after care when things go wrong.
