"Closed very early and refused to treat"

About: Cambourne Redruth Community Hospital

Not impressed at all. Went in with an injury from sport and the door was locked, even though it was before the closing time. The nurse came and refused to see me because treating me would "take too long" and she didn't want to stay open past their closing time. Going the extra mile apparently wasn't in her vocabulary, nor was putting the patient first. Not impressed when she told me to go to Penzance either!!

I have explored this and we can only apologise but I'm afraid our unit is supposed to close at 10pm and if we have a lot of people in the unit still waiting for treatment near that time then we would have to re direct patients elsewhere so that they would be see promptly. It is not our intention to be unhelpful, quite the opposite, when we let people be aware timely. We never secure the unit and close before 10pm. many of our staff have had to work much later over their time when they are required to wait ambulances for example or if they have already accepted them. The Nurse consultant has advised all our units that we only see those before 10pm but if near to that time and we still have a few to see then we need to refer patients elsewhere or our staff would have time owing each day. They would naturally see anyone that appeared acutely ill or needing help but I'm afraid we do have to stop at some point or there would be no need of a closing time. Our apologies for any distress caused.
