"I felt so let down"

About: NHS Tayside

(as the patient),

I have severe COPD, I manage it very well and usually know when I have an infection. I had taken stand by antibiotics but wasn't any better. I made an appointment but couldn't get my usual GP. On the way in, I handed in a sputum sample. Went into the surgery, explained, then student was asked to sound my chest. Then Dr. Said " I don't know you and I don't think you have an infection, see respiratory nurse, nurse has a slot later in the week, three days later. I was too ill to argue.

I went to nurse and saw GP coming out of her room. When I went in the nurse said the doctor was very concerned about me as sputum showed a very bad infection and said I had to have a two week course of different antibiotics. .......I was livid, and felt so let down. The nurse asked what was wrong and couldn't believe it when I told her. On hindsight I should have reported the doctor but the doctor didn't even have the decency to apologies. I have refused to see that GP since.

Dear Ellen O, I am sorry that your experience with the GP was so negative and I hope that your infection has now resolved? Without specific detail I am unable to share your experience with the relevant Practice to allow reflection by the team. If you are able to share further details with me I can be contacted at feedback.tayside@nhs.net.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience.

Kind regards

Caroline
