"Total Hip Replacement"

About: Clifton Park Hospital

I had a Total Hip Replacement in June of this year and my experience throughout my treatment was excellent. All of the staff, whatever their role, were professional, friendly and caring. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The surgical team obviously worked very well as a happy team and allayed any fears that I might have had during the anaesthesia process (I've always found spinals scary). I'd also been worried that I might be disturbed by the noises etc. during the surgery but they give you good sedation and to be honest, with the noise of the air purifiers going, you don't really hear too much and anything that you do, you don't mind about because of the sedation! The after care was also very good, with a great physiotherapist helping with exercises and teaching you how to get up and down stairs safely. I had a bit of pain I was concerned about in week 7 and rang the hospital to speak to her. When I describing my pain in detail she diagnosed what the problem was and reassured me that this was normal at this point in recuperation. She also gave me a specific exercise to do which helped within a few days. I am now happily back at work, driving and feeling 'normal' again. I will need a hip replacement of my other hip within the year and will be choosing the same surgeon and Clifton Park again.
