"Urgent Care Centre"

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

I was told there was a 60 minute wait to be seen in the Urgent Care Centre to have potentially broken ribs examined. I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes with no update on waiting times. I understand that patients will be seen based on the severity of their injuries, but I saw several people come in after me with seemingly minor injuries who were seen very quickly. That aside, would it not make sense to implement a maximum waiting time in the urgent care centre given that the cases referred there are not life threatening or even particularly distressing to many of the patients? As it is, I left without being seen (I wasn't the only one) and will have to advise myself of what is best to do with potentially broken ribs.

Response from St Thomas' Hospital

I apologise for your experience at Guys UCC. We have been experiencing increasing numbers of patients attending Guys UCC over the last few months and we are working on measures to reduce the waiting times. I apologise, too, that you were not kept informed of estimated waiting times, especially over such a long wait. This issue will be raised with reception staff in the centre and the situation will be monitored closely.
