"Blood Unit closed early 08--9-2014"

About: Gravesham Community Hospital

On the 08--9-2014, I had to go for a blood test and after work rushed to the hospital walking into the main reception at 13:57, just as I was heading to the door for the unit a member of staff appeared and closed it, then turned out the lights. I spoke to the reception and asked what time they close and was informed 14:00. I replied its only 13:57 now and was told to go in, I walked into the unlit room and went to the door on the opposite side as I could see the member of staff who had just turned out the lights standing inside. I knocked on the door and after knocking a 2nd time the member of staff looked up and told me were closed. I replied it's not 14:00 and the member of staff came to the door, opened it and again said were closed. i explained it was not 14:00 and the member of staff looked, the 14:00 news has come on and looking at the clock behind me said the clock said 2, yes it would say 2 by now 3 minutes had passed. I'm very annoyed as I have no chance to get to the unit now until over a week later. If you state 14:00 then at 14:00 I expect the doors to be closed but not at 13:57.

Dear James Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your visit to Gravesham Community Hospital yesterday and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by the Phlebotomy Unit being closed. The Senior Phlebotomist there has now investigated following your comments. Their process in the Phlebotomy department is to close the door when the 2 o’clock news comes on the radio, which was done yesterday. Our understanding is that you spoke to the receptionist at the main reception for Gravesham Community Hospital and they informed you that the Phlebotomy department was closed. However as you were anxious to be seen the receptionist suggested that you could walk into Phlebotomy to see if the staff were still there. We presume this is what happened and you were then informed by staff that the Unit was in fact closed. We have also been informed that the clock at main reception is approximately three minutes slow which is not helpful and may be what exacerbated this unfortunate series of events. If you are not satisfied with this explanation please feel free to contact our Customer Care Team whose details are given below. Hopefully your next expereince will be a more positive one and you will be able to attend the Unit in plenty of time for your blood test to be successfully carried out.
