"Staff were caring and informed"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

I recently had an operation at Ninewells Hospital (Ward 26) to remove nasal polyps. I want to record how well looked after I was by all staff. Prior to surgery three members of the surgery team discussed the procedure with me and briefed me on the (low) risks associated. I felt fully informed and this reduced my stress.

Pre and post op the nursing staff were excellent - caring, informed and willing to spend time answering my questions.

If there was one improvement that could be made it would be to look at whether the pre op documentation can be consolidated / streamlined at all. Prior to operation three separate professionals completed assessment materials but, although these appeared to be for different parts of the process, in a number of areas the same questions were asked; duplicated effort.

Dear Happy hooter,

Thank you for sharing your positive feedback about ward 26 staff and the wider team. Spending time with patients is so important and its great to hear when we get it right. Your thoughts about pre op documentation and the duplication of effort are well made. This post will be shared with the team and prompt discussions, if they are not already taking place, about the process.

Kind regards

Caroline
