"My 111 call and visit to St George's A&E"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111 St George's Hospital (Tooting) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was on my own in the house when I suddenly realised I could not see properly on the left hand side of the page. I tried washing my glasses and my eye but it made no difference. I could not read properly. I could not understand what was happening and thought about detached retinas etc! So I called my daughter and she came round to my house. She suggested we should call 111, which she did for me. I told them the problem and they gave me several tests to do. They then said I should get to the nearest a&e within an hour.

So my daughter took me to St georges'.

She sat there with me for over two hours then came with me when I was called by a doctor. It was by then after 10.00 pm!

I was given extensive tests, which took at least another two hours with lots of waiting time between each. I was allowed home just after midnight after promising to return for an eye check the following morning. I was also told I'd be called to the neurological unit. I was, the day after, and was given masses more tests.

The story goes on.... I have nothing but praise for st georges.
