"Very sad state of affairs"

About: Watford General Hospital

My 90 year old Mother was admitted to Watford General at the end of last year following a fall at home. She suffered a mild heart attack on admission and it was decided, bearing in mind her significant health issues, that she would not be given assistance should an arrest happen again. This I can perfectly understand - but did I have to be told this by a doctor and a (constantly yawning) ward sister in a linen cupboard?? My Mother lived on for another four months in this hospital and was moved to five different wards for reasons we cannot grasp. However these moves left her (and me!) confused and upset. Most of the day time staff were reasonable but my Mother was very, very, upset by some of the night staff who were very rough with her (I did witness this myself). Some staff had very little grasp of English which naturally caused many problems. I think my Mother and all the other patients here deserve better care - good basic nursing care. It is very sad to see elderly people treated like this. This hospital covers a too wide an area, too many people seeking too little resources. Also - the car park is an absolute nightmare - expensive and difficult to access for people with the mildest of disabilities. The No-Smoking policy at the entrance doors is a joke - enforce it or do not have one. Staff - most were just ok, perhaps in a less stressful, less crowded situation they would be able to reach a better potential.
