I have struggled with my mental health since a young child. Having been refered to let's talk welbeing by my GP around the age of 19 for depression I waited over 6wks for my assessments and was told to wait to start therapy over the phone. Six months later I received a call asking if I still would like to go ahead with this service. I never received any therapy and carried on feeling ill and let down.
I had a few years were I managed and was re referred in June 14 with panic disorder and possible OCD. I had become very unwell at this point and was willing to try let's talk welbeing again. I was assessed within days and was told I needed to begin CBT sooner rather then later and that it could fit round my childcare.
It's now September and I have received my appointment but unfortunately the location has changed and it just so happens to be at a previous workplace. This is apparently a new idea as it has absolutely no links with healthcare? ? ? I phoned the reception straight away to explain this is not suitable for me at all. I was told as I only had limited availability (Mondays and Tuesdays) fitting round me would require more waiting, it had already been four months. None of this made sense especially as there is a lets talk Wellbeing clinic at my local GPs which I've never been given the appointment times for, maybe if I had I could have changed my childcare to fit.
I will be going back to my GPs for help.
I am more then happy to explain to somebody who can help why I feel this is an unsuitable location. I really feel you cannot asses someone as urgent then make them wait four months for an appointment when they are nearing a crisis.
I would also like to point out I have worked for 6yrs in mental health and do understand the pressure on mental health services but this is not a solution. There needs to be clear instruction to service users there is a long wait and give them all the options for help. This would put them in some control of where then can receive help and if they can really wait months for support.
