"Better food and less waiting for prescriptions for my son"

About: Freeman Hospital / Clinical oncology

(as a parent/guardian),

My son is now on his fifth session of chemo. He was unhooked at approximately 10 am today it is now 5.20 pm and he is still waiting for a doctor to write up a prescription for him to take home.

7 hours for a prescription that he takes home every month. Why can't this be wrote up the night before? There was a doctor speaking to him today, why could it have been done then?

He is waiting to get home to have something to eat because the meals are atrocious. We travel a fifty mile round trip, the four days he is in, to take him something in to eat, otherwise he would not eat.

I know it's only a job to you but put yourself in the place of my son, who is petrified, and see if a better service can be given.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Patient Opinion and apologies for the delay in coming back to you. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your son’s experience whilst a patient under our care, we have passed on your comments to our pharmacy and catering team so they can review the specific issues raised. As your review was posted anonymously we are unable to look into the specific details of your son’s care and treatment. However, we would be very keen to do so and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this this further. Please contact Matron Peter Towns on 0191 2239280. Alternatively you can get in touch with a member of the Patient Relations team on 0191 223 2382 or via email patient.relations@nuth.nhs.uk.
