"Horrified by lack of urgency in relation to Cancer..."

I visited a GP at Hammersmith Hospital in London with very bad stomach pains & the doctor was very concerned about my symptoms & requested a blood test with a return visit the next day. On my return visit something wasn't right with the bloods & I was sent for an Ultrasound scan. I could tell that the nurse who did the scan was concerned & was asking me further about symptoms so I felt that this was something serious. I was sent back over to the doctor & told a large mass had been found in the pancreas along with masses in a lymph gland & liver. They had arranged an immediate CT Scan for me but as I was away from home & had just been told this devastating news I asked if I could return home to Chester & see my GP on the Monday morning. This was agreed as long as I promised to get to see my doctor straightaway & insist on the CT scan as urgent. First thing Monday I visited my doctors in Chester, gave them a letter from the GP at Hammersmith Hospital along with various reports, & was asked to return a couple of hours later. It was almost like the doctor did not know what to do - asking me what I wanted him to do??? - I stressed I needed an urgent CT scan undertaking and appointment with a consultant. Despite the fact I had given him letters from Hammersmith, he asked me to contact them for further information and I was told that my GP would have to fax over a letter to them (why did I need to do this - surely a doctor should know himself that he would need to request this himself??). I had to ring them a further two times to make sure that this letter had been faxed over. I was told that I would be waiting two weeks for the CT Scan and initial consultation - as this is the legal standard for cancer patients, so decided that it would be best to pay for a scan privately to try and speed things along. The CT Scan results came back and the diagnosis was worse than before (spread to other areas). I had to wait a further week for a hospital appointment which took place last Friday (supposedly with a consultant). The appointment was not with the consultant named on the letter, the doctor at the appointment did not have the notes from Hammersmith or Grosvenor Nuffield to accompany the Ultrasound or CT Scan & kept asking what had been found as he didn't really know. My notes had not even been discussed at the consultants weekly meetings and it would be next week. He said he could not give me any update at all or help me with advice on any of the unpleasant symptoms I have been experiencing. I asked what this appointment was all about & if it was for meeting the Countess of Chester's statistical targets on cancer appoints to which I was told it was. Still waiting to information on what can be done & feel like banging my head up a brick wall for not staying in London where this was seen as urgent. No faith in the Countess of Chester at all or the figures it releases on meeting appointments - should be closed. Will be on their death statistics soon!!!!!
