I have a degenerating spinal condition and am in a wheelchair but still have some mobility and an able to go up and down a few steps.
I recently had an assessment carried out by an occupational therapist who, although a few weeks earlier had offered me a temporary ramp, now said if needed a ramp I would have to buy one from the mobility allowance I receive.
When she arrived for the assessment I showed her a copy of my MRI scan, she seemed to suggest I had pulled it from the internet – I explained I had this copy from my GP.
I felt that she was not taking me or my condition seriously. I have a new scooter but I also need my wheelchair as this allows me to get around to see my friends and family, my mother has cancer and I can go and see her using public transport. I could not get my scooter on the train.
Also I do need a ramp – I can get up a couple of steps using my sticks to support me but then I need to bring up the wheelchair but I cannot pull that up the steps. It would be same getting back down.
I cannot understand why I can’t have a ramp.
