I attended this dept on Monday 25 August. Unfortunately it was a bank holiday but emergencies don't know that do they? A 2 hour wait was on the board so I sat down and waited in extreme pain. Several people who came after me were seen before me, even after the receptionist had told me at the 2 and three quarter hour point that I was next in line! I presented with severe gout symptoms which included severe swelling of the whole foot. I was seen by a nurse and fobbed off with a GP. I was clearly in pain walking and no effort was made to help me. After waiting a further 30 mins I eventually saw the GP who confirmed the gout and possible inflammation which needed antibiotics. I got the meds and went home with even worse pain. During the night I found the pain too bad to sleep but I could not take any more meds until breakfast. It is now 11.30am on the 26th and the pain has not retreated at all. I cannot walk without assistance and have booked an emergency appointment with my own GP practice as there is no way I'm spending another 3/4 hours to receive no considered treatment. I would have thought at least an x-Ray of my foot should have been taken to rule out other possible causes of the inflammation. This is no way to treat patients!
