"The care was excellent"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Tameside Hospital Ashton under Lyne in the early hours by NHS North west ambulance service. I had been suffering severe pain in my lower abdomen and some pain under my ribs. I was admitted to A & E after going through the Triage system which took minutes. It was a busy night but I was offered paracetamol intravenously, this did give some relief. I was seen by a doctor after hand over. I was sent to Xray and had both on chest and abdominal.

On return to A and E the doctor told me my bowel was full. Initially prescribed Laprasol. However the abdominal pain persisited and I was reffered to the surgeons. I was admitted and later that day had a phosphate enema, I spent the evening in MAU before being transferred to Women's Health ward 45. A surgeon discharged me at 11. 20 pm. I left the ward at approximately 9. 00 am the following morning.

The care was excellent the staff in both wards and A & E were both helpful and caring. Was there a down side, only that the cheese and onion pie was neither cheese or onion, it would appear potato in a pastry case with mash and two veg, I had not eaten for over 24 hours and although not feeling hungry having been offered what I love ( I am a vegetarian) it was a great disappointment. Hospital food is not great but I do not think you would get away with calling it cheese and onion in any other establishment.

Many thanks for your comments. We are working hard to ensure our patients receive a positive experience when they visit the hospital.

We will pass on your comments about the food to the catering department.

Thank you again for your kind words.

We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed.
