"Triage first contact lacked empathy"

About: Wharfedale Hospital

attended today with a rib injury from work. First contact with medical professional wearing a white smock left me feeling a little like 'oh I shouldn't have bothered her on a Sunday'. She lacked empathy to my situation, was over clinical and even stereotyped me as a typical male! I understood eventually that they wouldn't perform an x ray due to risk of radiation to main organs, but her interpersonal/communication skills left a lot to be desired! Thankfully the more senior nurse who saw me later was more understanding to my individual situation. I as not trying to 'get time off work' but needed to understand the exact level of injury to both complete a pending fitness test and a strenuous training course later n the forthcoming weeks! Bruising and soft tissue would mean dose up on painkillers and just do it, broken rib would mean no...still no wiser but I understand the first 'professionals' advice better now after a secondary contact with somebody more 'human!'
