I have had 3 babies in 3 different hospitals and the experience I had at Luton was definitely the best. I had some problems in my previous 2 labours, which made me concerned this third time. When the midwife initially booked me in she was very sympathetic and ensured that I was placed under the care of a consultant. He was fantastic. He listened to everything I said and came up with a plan to avoid the problems I'd had previously. I was induced at 38 weeks and all the staff who looked after me were brilliant. The midwife and student midwife stayed with me for virtually the entire time and the registrars came and spoke to me before my waters were broken and reassured me that they would follow my consultant's plan. My consultant's plan was carried out exactly and I really felt that all the staff listened to me and the requests that I had. I was impressed that I was able to have an epidural almost as soon as I'd requested one-I know this isn't always possible. Everything went to plan and I was so happy to end up feeling well after giving birth, with a healthy baby, and being able to go home the day after. The only negatives are minor-the number of checks/observations that were done on me on the antenatal ward during the night, once the induction process had been started, were ridiculous. I got almost no sleep-my BP, pulse, temperature were taken. Then a CTG, then pain relief. Almost every hour I was woken for something, which is exhausting! The other negative thing is the food-it's really not very good and there isn't much choice. However, the negatives are hugely outweighed by the positives. Thank you very much.
"A great birth experience"
