"Patient at the gynaecology ward ..."

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Patient at the gynaecology ward - I was quickly referred for same day emergency treatment from my GP and then from HRI but it stopped there!

I must say that the night staff during my stay were fantastic and very, very nice - especially as I came out of surgery very late at night to be told my grandfather has passed away while I was in - helped me get myself together.

What could be improved

I was treated terribly by day staff. I was left forgotten in a side room, on the 2nd day I was asked what I would like to eat at approx 6pm but nobody came back, was left hungry! Was barely able to walk to find someone to give me some food but luckily I had some snacks.

Wanted to go home on 2nd day, was expecting to, DR came to see me in the morning - 3 hours later, no word from anyone, went to ask when somebody is going to take my cannula out so I can go home - told I can't?!

Next morning, nurse asked if I mind male Dr examined me, I said I do so she examined me instead and reported back to the Dr. But when Male Dr came to see me, he made me EXTREMELY comfortable by repeatedly asking if he could "have a look" (at my bits). I didn't know what to say after saying I don't feel comfortable with it, twice!!

Discharge was horrendous! Nurse LITERALLY scooped my possessions up in her arms, dragged me out of the room and dumped me in the corridor where I waited for my dad to pick me up - I literally wanted to cry!

Anything else?

The hospital and ward looks great, swanky and new but the care you receive is terrible!
