experienced at Goring Hall where the doctor advised, performed and reviewed my Hip replacement. The opportunity to see the operating room and equipment before entering the hospital was very useful and gave me confidence in the team spirit which obviously existed. The nursing staff during my 3 day stay gave a seemingly seamless shift transition and I always felt that all staff were informed of my particular circumstances. The doctor's brief, kindly but thorough approach always gave total confidence. The sub contract catering not only offered a choice of well prepared food but one was always approached with respect and friendliness. I can only compliment and thank our politicians, administrators and medical people for making such a wonderful place as Goring Hall available to me and others on a NHS basis. At age of 75 years and after 1 year rebuilding leg muscle I now regularly walk 3 miles a day and swim 50 metres as well as climb several hundred steps to our house which is 70 steps up from our car park. If I gave any advice to the hospital it would be to encourage them to emphasise more strongly that patients must realise that they will need to expect to take a year or more to rebuild/attach the muscles and everything that one has inside the thigh and hip. Clearly a previous history of regular exercise and fitness will help but patients should be told to expect to "work at it" to rebuild a strong hip and thigh system. My thanks to all and the NHS for providing an excellent outcome. Alan Gee
