"mother's care with terminal cancer"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a relative),

My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2014. Initially we were lead to believe that there was no treatment available but after discussion with the Dr's my mother was given 6 chemotherapy treatments and initially offered surgery, but unfortunately her condition deteriorated and this was not possible. The family was kept totally up to date with the treatment, possible outcomes and in most cases, treated with respect and empathy. The Dr, s, nursing and ancillary staff of the Macmillan Centre and Shouldham Ward were wonderful.

As soon as you enter Shouldhan Ward you feel reassured by the calm, empathetic and competent manner of the Staff. I was not aware of the Sister in Charge of Shouldham Ward but whoever she/he is, the ward ran like clock work without any variation in standards of care, whether the Sister was on duty or not.

We were offered the wonderful facility of staying with mother in the last week of her life and as a family at this very traumatic time, I can't describe the gratitude we all felt for this act of kindness and understanding. Mother and the family were treated holistically and everything possible was done to make all our journeys easier.
