(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I wish the nurses at Trafford General would learn sign language!

Response from Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your feedback. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

I would like to apologise if you experienced difficulties with communication when you attended Trafford Hospital. In response to your comment we can confirm that although the nurses are not required to undergo sign language training as part of their nursing role, some have chosen to do so and the Trust can arrange for a sign language interpreter to be booked to assist patients who communicate using sign language.

It is difficult to respond to your concern in a comprehensive way, because of lack of detailed information. If you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service by e mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk.
