My mother was admitted to the WHH on in late July 2014 and ended up staying in for 5 nights.
She was admitted to the CDU unit after being assessed in A&E following breathing difficulties. My wife and myself visited my mother on this ward for the first time 2 days after she was admitted. We couldn't believe the state my mother had been left in, her dressing gown was bloodstained, following several blood tests. Various used tubes, containers, bloodstained tissue and other unsavoury items were just left strewn across her bed. It was a disgusting sight. Nobody seemed interested or bothered to clear away the mess.
We found it very difficult to track down anybody who could answer relevant questions about my mother's condition. When we did speak to a senior nurse, we were not overly impressed with her rather flippant attitude. During many hours of visits to see my mum, not once did a member of staff ask if she was comfortable or needed anything.
All in all a very poor experience of hospital care, it does not surprise me that this hospital has been graded so low.
