Had to visit A and E after breaking my foot. No wheelchairs or assistance as I arrived. Had to "Hop" to reception, where I had to insist someone found me a chair before I passed out. Perfectly happy to wait my turn , but asked if I could have some pain relief as the expected wait was 2 hour 15 minutes (according to the display in the waiting are!) Nothing. After 3 hours I noticed that the message stating waiting times were 2 hours 15 had never changed. Asked again for some pain relief. After 5 hours, had to insist someone gave me something for the pain. A totally disinterested member of staff offered me some Paracetamol. After 7 hours I was finally seen, X-Rayed, had a temporary cast fitted and was prescribed some co-codamol. Was sent home to come back to the Fracture clinic next day. After waiting for my appointment for almost 2 hours, I was called into a consulting room where a nurse asked me to show her my right knee as her notes said I had torn the ligaments. The clue of the Big White Plaster cast on my left foot obviously didn't convince her. The "Notes" said I had injured my right knee. What a farce. Had to leave and go back to the waiting room. I then asked every member of staff who walked past if they knew why I was there. No great joy there either. Was eventually seen 30 minutes later.. I will never go back to Doncaster for treatment, and will advise anyone I know to find a hospital where they have staff who do not seem to punish you for daring to turn up and expect to be treated. Whatever happened to the "Caring Profession"?
