"A&E and Wards Great, the Pharmacy is not."

About: Royal Preston Hospital

Went to A&E with a dog bite. Seen with in an hour, spot on. Plastics doctor on duty decided to admit to give IV antibiotics and clean out wounds in theatre. Next morning down to theatre wounds cleaned back on ward by 10 a.m. brilliant. Kept in for another 24hrs to have more IV antibiotics. Ward rounds 08.30a.m. discharged by doctor by 10 a.m. have had dressing re-done and cannula removed top work well done nurses and health care worker. Then the wait for the pharmacy to deliver 15 antibiotic tablets to the ward was 61/2 hours, that is a joke & lets down all the good work done by the other staff. I have since been told by a friend who is a nurse that on discharge you can ask for a prescription instead of getting drugs from the pharmacy which I would certainly recommend so you don't have to wait for them.

Thank you for your feedback and for your positive comments about the care provided. I'm sorry that your overall experience was marred by the lengthy wait for your antibiotics. The Trust is currently undertaking work to try to improve the discharge process which we hope, will prevent delays such as the one you experienced.

Thank you for your feedback, Whilst it was pleasing to hear that the care and treatment was of the standard we aim to provide to all our patients, we're sorry that your experience was marred by the lengthy delay you experienced in waiting for your medication prior to being discharged home. The Trust is undertaking a significant amount of work to improve the discharge process in order to enhance that aspect of care for our patients.
