"My daughter's wait for rheumatology appointment"

About: St John's Hospital / Rheumatology

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was first seen in February 2013 then put on medication on secondary 2013. She was supposed to see consultant in 6 months come May of 2014. No appoint her GP phoned and was told an appointment had been sent out for March which my daughter never received, they gave another appointment for the mid June on the afternoon of and the next day she received a phone call saying they had made a mistake that the consultant was on holiday, now the next appointment is for late August.

That takes us nearly up to a year since she has seen the consultant. In the meantime the medication she was given haven't been working and she has. been in severe pain all this time and absent from work since beginning of May and now very depressed because of her situation. We are totally disgusted over the whole situation.

Dear DoreenM

I am very sorry to hear about your daughter's overall experience and the pain she is presently suffering. As she has an appointment for late August it would now not assist her by trying to try and source her an earlier appointment if that was at all possible. It was extremely unfortunate that your daughter did not receive the appointment that was sent out in March and this could have been down to the post. However, if you would like to contact CRAFT with your your daughter's details we could investigate the circumstances to ensure that we have the correct and up-to-date details for your daughter. The details for CRAFT are email craft@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk or telephone 0131 536 3370.

Update posted by DoreenM (a parent/guardian)

I don't think trying to trace what happened to the first appointment is of any help as nothing good can come of it, and what about the five months following? Doreen M.
