"I found the whole day educational"

Yesterday I attended the all day course on Diabetes at Dewsbury hospital ran by the people from"Desmond", Let me start by saying am 48 years old man and have been a diagnosed diabetic for about 4 to 5 months. I went along like a naughty school boy with the mind set that am going to have to sit there for 5/6 hours and be constantly told that the days of eating anything vaguely nice are now gone and to prepare for a life of gorgeous "sugar free" Spinach for the rest of my life, But how wrong could I be?

I was met by two "older" ladies who made me feel at home straight away who throughout the day explained everything in great detail but without the blinded by science stuff or being patronized in any way, by dumbing it down and using props we were all able to understand the points they were trying to make.

They explained at great length being a diabetic is not the death sentence it's often perceived to be and by making some simple life style changes you can vastly improve your quality of life. However, they could maybe improve menu ideas.

I find the whole day educational and would recommend this course to anyone who finds themselves in my situation.
