"My experience of having to use a hoist to be lifted from my wheelchair "

I was asked to try and see if I could manage to get on to the scanner bed myself before we tried the hoist. But the scanner bed was too high for me to get on to and could not be adjusted, so I had to use the hoist. The staff put the sling under me in my wheelchair but did not explain what was going to happen and hooked the sling up to the hoist and whisked me up into the air.

Although I was safe I felt very frightened by the experience. My sister was supporting me to this appointment and was asked to leave the room during the hoisting procedure and a nurse was supposed to call her in before the scan took place, they forgot to do this. So once I was back in my wheelchair the doctor went out to speak to her.

It would have been much better if things had been explained better to me and my sister had been involved during the whole procedure including the hoisting. I would like nursing staff to remember this and take into consideration how frightening things like this can be for people and explain to me and other people what is going on in the future.
