"5 day stay "

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Admitted into MAU on in July seriously ill with pneumonia and acute kidney injury. Excellent care given in this department.

Moved to C7 ward on Thursday at 20. 20, still on 80% oxygen, iv anti-biotics. A catalogue of errors followed. Bed not ready sat for 10 mins in middle of ward. Requested sleeping pill having not slept for 72hrs due to being scared of closing my eyes & dying. Nurse said she'd get one prescribed. Asked for iv paracetamol at 21. 00 for pain/temp. Drip went up but due to not being done correctly took 4. 5 hrs to go through instead of 15 mins.

Requested support to use commode was left at side of bed no oxygen, buzzer curtains open all ward could see. I panicked couldn't breath.

One heck carried out from 21. 30 until 6am and this only because Critical Care Outreach had come to check me, I am in no doubt without this amazing team I would have ended up in Intensive Care or worse dead.

Moved to side room day after. Errors continued throughout stay, again Critical Care Outreach stepped in.

Missed medication, no communication, no organisation. No one should feel intimidated, scared especially when feeling vulnerable and being so poorly. What happened to duty of care, respect, maintaining dignity. I felt I had been dumped in the bowels of hell.

I have complained to ward manager who was approachable and listened to my concerns, waiting for feedback. However I feel BRH should still be on special measures and CQC need to inspect.

Dear Angry 621 First of all very many apologies for the lateness of this response, Patient Opinion did not notify me of your comment and it has only now come to notice through an NHS Choices notification on the 18th April 2015. I can only apologise for the care you received from us in August 2014 and I know that you made a complaint at the time and received a response from both the ward manager and the matron for C7 in the form of a letter setting out your concerns-and the actions that would be taken to address these.
