I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in a non true form when I was 7 months old, I would have one maybe two seizures episodes a year! Then I hit 17 and the rate of seizures increased, by the I was 18 I was having at least 6 a day. By the time I hit 21 I was having up to 17 seizures everyday without fail. Medication alone did not work and because of where the cyst in my brain was, brain surgery was a no go. I was also diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries that year, which is primarily a hormonal imbalance. As I had no real trigger as most epileptics do I looked into the possibility of the Polycystic Ovaries being the cause! It took me three and a half years, a string of specialists and a shrink, and £1,000 on private treatment but after a year on Prostap which induced Menopause and had reduced my seizures down by nearly 90% and research on my side I found my incredible GP was willing to find me the right specialist. He found a Consultant who agreed to remove my ovaries. But when things slowed because we couldn't find a Anesthetic who would one of the incredible heads of admin made it her personal mission to find one. And she rang me and kept me in the loop, and even rang me personally to tell me when I was due in for the operation. Now I have been an NHS sceptic most of my life but even I felt safe and comfortable on ward, I am usually the world's worst patient, but there I felt no need to be. The nurses were amazing the doctors made you feel at ease and even though I am only 25 my opinions on the conditions I've had from birth were taken seriously. I could not ask for more and I wish I could rate them higher.... The last time I had a cold, I had over 100 seizures. In the early stages of recovery from the operation I had 6. And they were mild, that was weeks ago and my body is recovering, not just from the operation but from nearly 10 years of constant fitting, my eye sight is better, my memory is slowly improving. And my brain is silent. It sounds strange but when you have that many fits it alters your brain, it was forever fighting off or trying to recover from a seizure, I always had excess electric buzzing in my brain, now there is nothing but my thoughts. It's peaceful. My GP from Barwell Medical Centre and the Consultant, and all the nurses and the Anethist who I wish I knew the names of, adds well as the Admin team for Coventrys Gyno ward are my hero's, they have not just changed my life, they saved it xxxx
