My first impression of my stay was very good as I found the booking in experience and the day ward very efficient and pleasant. Staff and cleanliness in the day ward were superb and the team worked together extremely well. I was shocked that patients on the way to surgery were using the same lift as visitors to the hospitals and this was none to clean. So much for infection control. The surgical team were also excellent and after surgery I was taken back to the main hospital ward which was alright to start with and the staff worked as a good team but this deteriorated by the weekend. The toilet in the main bathroom was out of order for several days. I was non impressed to see a male visitor frequently use the only working ladies toilet close by several times. This certainly shattered my confidence on an orthopaedic ward! I also noticed the catering team drop food on the corridor and not pick his up. This could easily have resulted in an accident where the patients had mobility issues. I felt that this was definitely an area that needed better management. Generally the staff were kind and caring but communication seemed to be lacking at times.
