"Lack of compassion"

About: Cheshunt Community Hospital

(as the patient),

I dropped a 8Kg weight on my little finger while at work. I arrived at the minor injuries unit and had to wait 5 minutes at the main desk before the nurse practitioner even looked up. He asked if I had had any pain relief, I said no and the N. P. gave me some codeine and sent me to x-ray. The person at x-ray sent me back to the nurse practitioner because my hand was still bleeding profusely and he was unable to x-ray my hand in that state. The nurse practitioner then gave me a wipe to clean my wound and sent me back to the x-ray department. This time round the x-ray was able to proceed and the staff were very compassionate and kind but I again was sent back to the main unit where I had to wait for four hours without any pain relief. The nurse practitioner then dressed my hand but was incredibly rude and unkind - and when I asked for pain relief told me to buy some paracetamol. There were signs in the unit advised that they were understaffed but I was surprised at the compete lack of compassion I was shown.
