My 94 year old grand mother was recently admited to the Hospital firstly in th ED, with a suspected tia and uti. The care and attiude of the nursing staff was to say the least poor.A not very interested approach, My family requested a ct scan which couldnt be done at the hospital. so had to travel to scunthorpe ED. This was dirty and once again nursing staff barley looked at us or my Grandmother no neuro observations carried out. Not a smile or hello from a nurse, not one nurse asked any of us including the patient how we were or if we needed anything. The ED registrar was very helpful and took time to explain things to us. My grandmother was then transfered to the aau at grimsby around 6am,Again attitude from nursing staff disgusting we felt in the way and we were putting them out whilst they sat at the nurses station. We left and i asked if my grandmother could have some fluids as no food or drink offered to us at any point even after a clear ct result. The next morning we were informed that my nan was been discharged as ct scan normal, we asked if she was still confused which she was. explained this wasnt normal for her at all. So with a lot of talking and visits and phone calls she eventually recieved antibiotics and a longer stay in hospital. If we hadnt of asked for treatment and further investigations she would have been sent home alone that day alone with no diagnosis. I felt let down by this hospital. I work in an very busy challenging Emergency dept 200 miles away and have never ever seen such disregard poor attitudes and lack of empathy care and compasion from staff as i witnessed in both Grimsby and Scunthorpe hospitals.
