I recently had to be admitted as an emergency to Orrell ward at Wigan infirmary. Despite an initial bad reception/greeting from an auxiliary nurse, once admitted I cannot praise the nursing and medical staff enough. The speed with which I was diagnosed was quick and efficient. My care by all concerned was second to none but I was also impressed by the care I observed for other patients, especially the elderly.
I have worked for the NHS myself for 30 years, and I was proud to see how professional, caring and compassionate our nurses are from sister, staff nurses and auxiliaries. They were under enormous pressure, definitely overworked but nothing was too much trouble. They never stop!
2 people who impressed me the most were Nicola, student nurse (please give her a job in Wigan infirmary, she is an excellent nurse!) and Tracy, auxiliary nurse, whose kindness towards the elderly patients really touched me.
