"1st Baby - Thank You"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

I gave birth to my baby boy on 24 June 2014 in the low risk area of the maternity unit. Every member of staff I came into contact with were amazing, from the nurses and midwifed in triage who provided support and reassurance when I had concerns with lack of movement, to the midwives and student midwifed on the ward who ultimately got me through labour and safely delivered my baby boy. I was lucky to be able to use the birthing pool which was part of my birth plan even though I didn't manage to give birth in the pool. The midwife and student midwife were supportive and explained every step which was greatly appreciated when you don't know what to expect. My baby was born at 9.05pm and thankfully my husband was allowed to stay with me through the night (huge relief) the next morning all checks were made and we left the hospital at 11 with our new family. I can not fault the care that we received or the support we were given and are so grateful for everything the staff did for us.

Response from Russells Hall Hospital

Thank you so much for taking time to let us know about your experience of our Maternity Led Unit. Let us first offer our congratulations to you and your husband on the birth of your son. We are so pleased to hear that the staff looking after you kept you fully informed during your labour and that you felt properly supported when you did have concerns about your baby. We have recently increased the number of beds available for partners to stay the night following birth as we know what a difference this can make to our new mums. It is great to hear that this improvement had a positive impact on your experience. We will pass your thanks and feedback on to our maternity staff who I’m sure will be thrilled to receive your kind words.
