I was recently in Dewsbury for minor surgery under general anaesthetic. The day staff were lovely, introduced themselves, put me at ease always checked how I was and was very sweet after I came round in considerable amount of pain. I have no complaints about the day staff in my stay at all, they were all a credit to the hospital. However this was all pretty much ruined once they switched staff for the evening. I was completely forgotten about. Absolutely no one came to see me or introduced themselves for 3 hours. I did not get any water and no one came to replace the paracetamol drip with a saline one so I felt 100 times worse due to dehydration. I was left in agony because no one came to give me any pain meds for over an hour after they were due and when they did it was only because my husband had to go and ask for someone about 7 times. The gentleman who was the only one we saw seemed to know absolutely nothing about me and had no idea I was due for discharge that day and therefore waiting. 2 hours after the time I was told I could go home he still hadn't removed my cannula or given me any pain meds or water, I had to catch a junior who also had no clue at all about anything, to ask for some toast and had to ask same junior twice to help me remove my pad and go to the toilet. I felt totally unimportant and neglected to be honest not to mention my husband having to keep putting extra money in car because everytime we asked for help or to be discharged the man would wonder off and forget we ever asked. When I eventually left I left without any discharge advice despite asking-so now have no idea when/how to change my dressing or when/how to wash myself and my wounds, no idea what to do it if have problems with my wounds or what to look out for, no aftercare advice at all, I was just left to leave. Such a shame because as I say day staff were lovely, but once evening staff came on it was just horribly stressful and very uncomfortable. No one even turned the lights on for us in the ward so we sat in a dingy boiling hot room, the inpatient ladies asked several times for the tv channel to be changed but were ignored. If it had stayed like it did during the day, my ratings would be 4 stars but the way I felt after 7.30-10.30 would be no stars
