"waiting 5 weeks for an urgent scan for possible..."

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

I have had an urgent scan for a possible sarcoma waiting to be attended from priory surgery caversham gp referals outstanding for 5 weeks. If it is a sarcoma the prognosis is terrible and i have been extremely worried for weeks and weeks. I have twice since requested information from the surgery who have today processed the request again. I feel in this situation it is only fair to award the hospital one star as it was not possible to award zero. As this was an urgent scan it should have been dealt with in days not weeks. I am still waiting for a letter from the hospital and I have no idea how long this basic and cheap but essential scan will take to be performed.

We are very concerned to hear about your experience awaiting an urgent scan. In order for us to investigate this as soon as possible, we would urge you to contact our Patient Relations Department on 0118 322 8338 or email talktous@royalberkshire.nhs.uk to provide more details in order to get an urgent appointment arranged and to investigate why the correct referral pathway wasn't followed. Alternatively, you could contact the sarcoma nurse specialist for help directly on 0118 322 7271.
