"Paramedics were magic!"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

The paramedics were absolutely magic, so good it’s not true.

I called 111 because I needed a doctor on a Sunday when the surgery was closed. The person who answered said they would send an ambulance round – they arrived while I was still on the phone, within 8 minutes of me dialling.

The two gentlemen who came were brilliant. They gave me a thorough check but could not find any reason why I felt so unwell. One on the paramedics then took my pulse and was surprised that it was so low. They straight away gave me an ECG and told me that it was important I went to see my GP straight away on Monday to have my heart checked out. I went the next day and everything is now in hand.

Without the paramedics checking my pulse and telling me to follow it up with my GP I might have been a worse state now. They were calm, reassuring and thorough.

It’s so easy to complain and moan about the taxes we pay but we are very lucky to have this service. My wife had a brain operation; while she was in intensive care a young doctor let slip how much it cost each day to treat my wife. I could never afford that kind of money if I’d had to pay for it!

Dear Prints324

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope you are feeling much better now.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the 111 service and ambulance crew who came to your aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave you.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
