"The bed with the protection bars ..."

About: University Hospital Of North Tees

(as the patient),

What I liked

The bed with the protection bars at each side and remote control to sit me up or lie me down. (Not all beds were modren and therefore did not have these facilities).

What could be improved

The majority of nurses just focus on the patient's physical care and completely ignore the need to support patients mentally as well. In fact there were times when I didn't even feel physically cared for e.g. after using a bed pan the nurse was going to re-cover me without wiping me; when I asked for a blanket another nurse dumped it at my feet without covering me and when using the shower I was abandoned to get on with it without assistance - I resorted to pressing the emergency button after getting cold and feeling faint. Just a few examples of many....

Anything else?

It may be lack of resources which mean the staff are totally task orientated but when you are caring for people you need to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect as human beings.
