"My husband's heart attack and the care he received"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

My husband started to have problems early Monday morning when our little boy came into our room. He was complaining that he felt sick and started to sweat. His complexion was almost grey and he seemed to be having trouble breathing. He is asthmatic so he took his inhaler to help with the pain. I took our small children downstairs and at eight a.m phoned 999. The ambulance car came in five minutes and the paramedics were wonderful . They knew he was having a heart attack and sprayed something in his mouth and have him some aspirin upon their arrival. They asked me to take the little ones to nursery and waited whilst I came back, whilst trying to stabilise his condition in the back of the ambulance. The paramedics blue lighted us to the Eastbourne District General Hospital where he was admitted for an emergency angioplasty. He was operated on by a wonderful and talented man, who seemed conscientious and compassionate. My husband had had a heart attack and one of his radial arteries had been hanging by a thread and was 99 percent closed. Had we not have got to the hospital so quickly, it could have been fatal and it was due to the hard work and diligence of all the hospital staff inside and out that saved him. The care we received on the ward at the CCU was exemplary. All the doctors, nurses and support staff were knowledgable and supportive and caring - even making me a cup of tea whilst my husband was being worked upon. The follow up care he has received at the Conquest Hospital, again under the same consultant has been equally Fanatstic and the matron both professional and reassuring and very welcoming. We have two small children who are three and two respectively, and I can't thank you enough on behalf of them for looking after him in these ways and today we all are home and back together as a family. We can't fault the care and professional at Coronary Care on both sites and we can't thank you all enough.

Dear Mrs Goldreich Thank you very much for expressing your appreciation for the care your husband received from Cardiology and Paramedic staff. Following such a traumatic event and worrying time for you, we are so pleased to hear that your husband is now back at home with his family, where he belongs. We value all comments we receive and it is always very encouraging for staff to read feedback like this from patients and their relatives. It means such a lot to know that their hard work, dedication and commitment is recognised and valued in this way. It is also very satisfying for staff to hear they have contributed to a very positive outcome. We will ensure your posting is forwarded to senior staff in Cardiology for them to share with staff and we wish you and your family best wishes, hoping that your husband continues to make good progress.
