"Pain management clinic needs to manage itself!"

About: Watford General Hospital

I am not happy after suffering chronic pain for the last 5 and a half years, the lack of care provided by the pain management clinic in my opinion is very poor. I had an injection into my facet joint in my spine in Oct 2013. I have not yet been seen in a follow up appt, after that procedure. I am in chronic pain, I suffered a flair up to the steriod which was very painful, the injection itself only lasted 3 weeks. No one can imagine what it's like to be feeling pain all the time, with no relention. For me, the fact I was pain free for a short period of time was an amazing feeling, as I have no idea what it feels like to be "normal" anymore. Pain is always with me. The steroid injection works differently on us all, and for me it only lasted 3 weeks. However, I was hoping to have a follow up to that injection certainly within a desired timescale, of 13 weeks, which I was told by the ward staff, and certainly on the 2013 side. I had an appt for a follow up on 6 June 2014, which I find unacceptable. This appt was then cancelled and moved to 27 June, and then cancelled and moved again to 18 July and then a further cancelletion and moved to 15 August. I have been in touch with PALS, the secretary, the bookings team, they all say the same thing, "too many patients to see" and today, the secretary said, "cons is on annual leave hence cancellation of your appt"! NHS really do not care, as they cannot manage their own staff, holidays, making appts for patients, they need to plan and think ahead, not keep cancelling appts that patients so desperately need. Not exactly a pain clinic, if it can't see the patient, more than once a year.. I need help with a pain clinic, and I feel this one has truely let me down. I do not rate WWHS pain clinic at all. I would not recomend anyone to go there for care, as you won't get treated in the timescale you deserve.
