As a diabetic type 1, I have regular appointments at the RLI. A couple of weeks before I'm due to go to see the consultant I go and have a blood test so the results are ready for the visit. Unfortunately this time I had lost the form which states the blood tests I needed (recently moved and so probably still in a box!) I went to the out patients reception to be told (rather rudely) that they couldn't help me as they weren't medical staff and to go to my GP. She then returned to her phone call. I went to my GP got the tests done and picked up the results for the appointment today. I arrived 20 minutes before my appointment and checked in using their computer system. It came back without a result and directed me to reception. I was told after a few minutes of searching for my appointment that it had been cancelled last week and it was a patient request as lost blood form. I obviously, seeing as I turned up today, hadn't cancelled my appointment but the receptionist had taken it upon herself to do so! This is just one of a number of incidents with this hospital and I have now given up! It's not the nursing staff as they are second to none. It's the consultants and management which cause the problems. Its interesting to note that on this site the hospital have only replied to the favourable comments and not the unfavourable ones, which I think proves my point!
"Disappointed!"
