"my mum was admitted through A&E ..."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

my mum was admitted through A&E in jan 2009.during her stay she was very upset most of the time, she was left on a toilet for over an hour, left to wet her bed after calling for help and left lying in it till morning(this happened during the night).she is diabetic and was made to feel as if she was causing problems when she asked for suitable food.she became confused over her medical care after being told one thing then a different thing the next day.when my dad and i tried to talk to ward staff we were made to feel as if we were taking up too much of their time and they even walked off to take a phone call whilst chatting to us.eventually mum got to the end of her tether and asked to be discharged.i have never experienced such appaling treatment of a patient in the north east before.we come from london and one thing we have been glad of was what we thought was the best nhs teatment in the uk up here, but alas nth tyneside has let the nhs down.i have been a patient in the rvi ,newcastle general and the freeman and never experienced the lack of care my mum was subjected to in your ward.she is almost 80 yrs old and i expected her to be treated with kindess and respect at the very least.

What could be improved

the staff could be taught to have more sympathy and care for their patients.
