"A&E no empathy"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Triage is first point of call & as such the staff on duty should show empathy towards very worried patients. My daughter has a baby with bad Acid Reflux, she won't feed & is choking in her sleep. She has been seeking answers from medical staff since birth just to be fobbed off. Eventually at this hospital the doctor diagnosed a cows milk allergy & gave her stronger meds than her GP had. She got worse so my daughter went back exhausted & extremely worried only to be told by triage nurse that the doctors would only send her home. My daughter exploded and said have you dealt with a baby with this it's not right she's suffering & I need help to take away her pain. She said she's worried about her not taking fluids. The nurse then said she'd dealt with this sort of think for 30 yrs and knows what she is talking about. When she did see the doctor he was so lovely. Explained she had a inflamed bowel due to the allergy it should settle down in a week or two. He told her to wean her early now because there is nothing else to try. He also said he has many babies on the ward with this that are very poorly but because my daughter has done so well to maintain her babies well being the nurses look & see she looks very healthy. Normally the babies look very I'll but our little girl looks so well. He has said it's very difficult to treat & has said she can ring the ward anytime & bypass A&E.

Parents do get anxious when their little ones are poorly and this is quite understandable. We're sorry that the nurse did not seem sympathetic but pleased that finally your daughter was reassured by the doctor. It sounds as if your daughter has been doing a great job under difficult circumstances.
