"West Cornwall Gynaecological Team"

I should like to pass on my appreciation and thanks to the Consultant’s team at West Cornwall Hospital where I recently underwent a Hysteroscopy procedure. The nurses, registrar and the Consultant himself were empathetic, reassuring and made the process as relaxed and comfortable as was possible. In particular I appreciated the following: • The examination and procedure was thoroughly explained by the registrar beforehand, and I was given the opportunity to ask questions which were clearly answered • I was taken and shown exactly where to leave my clothes • Then escorted into the room where four nurses greeted me with smiles, introductions and welcoming chat • A warm compress was laid on my stomach • As the discomfort deepened a nurse put her hand reassuringly on my arm, keeping it there until completion • While the procedure was carried out by the registrar, the Consultant clearly explained what was happening and being shown on the screen • On completion the nurses were so understanding, asking if I was all right and ready to help me, if necessary, to get up from the couch and passing me tissues • I was escorted back to re-dress then escorted to another room where a tray of tea was brought to me. The Consultant’s registrar came to chat about the results as I drank my tea. It would be helpful if these points were also passed to the team at Treliske where I had, two weeks previously, a similar procedure to take a biopsy, but where none of the above mentioned TLC aspects were included. Had this been the case I would not have been as apprehensive about the further hysteroscopy as I was. For the procedure at Treliske I felt I was simply a ‘body’ rather than a person, with the single healthcare assistant present not talking to me at all.
