About: Southmead Hospital

I came for an appointment for an MRI followed by meeting with the consultant. After 2 hours of looking they couldn't find the consultant. Where I had the MRI was still full of packing cases and a plastic sheet as a wall! Since then I have been offered treatment but my consultant at RUH informed that I would need platelets before I can have this procedure. Five phone calls later and I am yet to speak to the consultant to find out what my platelets needs to be and to ask her to arrange for a blood test and transfusion before the appointment. This is possibly life threatening, I have cancer and I certainly don't need the stress. The secretary has passed on the message to the consultant by email & other means to call me but so far to no avail. I spoke to another cancer patient on Wednesday who had an MRI for the same reason as me and again no one could find the consultant & although this took place in May she is still waiting to hear her results after several phone calls. What a shambles, all very well having a lovely building but if the staff aren't improved that's all it will ever be a fancy new building!

Dear Anonymous – thank you for taking the time and trouble to post the details of your experience. I am sorry that the move to the new Brunel Building affected you in such an adverse way. Clearly there were problems in some areas as a result of the transfer of services, and things did not go as smoothly for all services as we had hoped and planned for. Please accept my apologies for the distress caused. Regrettably I cannot do anything to assist as I do not have your details; however, if you would like to contact me via complaints@nbt.nhs.uk and supply these with the reference NHS/Choices I would be happy to see what help we could provide. Please be assured that working continues to “bed in” the new services within the Brunel Building. Kind Regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
