"Second time lucky.."

About: Worthing Hospital

First time we arrived, I got checked over and told that labour would be 4 .5 hours away and to go home. With painkillers in hand.. We both came away. Unhappy but had to listen to advice. Midwife didn't discuss any birth plan. Having told them my first child was born very fast 1 hour 2 mins. At home, I was not happy and felt very sick and thought something was wrong only been home 20 mins but wanted to go back. We arrived back , to be told I couldn't go to delivery unit. Had to be checked again but the staff messed this up to. In labour going back and to from units. All the midwives having a meeting as I walked out of delivery unit again, to be checked, but before I could get there I started to bleed heavy in the hallway. Scared and crying loud. We got help from 8 midwives. To then having my baby in 27 mins. The midwife we had in the end was amazing and they didn't panic us when my baby had the cord around its neck 3 times or that it had stressed its self so much it had gone to the loo inside me or that it's heart rate was slowing down. They called for a baby doctor o come check. 2 midwives 2 doctors. So very scary from me and my partner.

We are very sorry to hear that both you and your partner did not feel that you were listened to or supported during the early part of your birth experience and we would like to thank you for taking the time to feedback to us and to apologise that this has been a scary experience for you both. We are currently looking at the labour triage services at WSHFT so that women are more easily able to access the support that they need at the right time and we hope this will prevent this happening in the future. As NHS Choices is confidential and we are not provided with your contact details if you would like to discuss your care in more detail please contact us directly via the Trust PALS department on 01903 285032 between 9am and 4.30pm Monday-Friday or email PALSWorthing@wsht.nhs.uk. You could also contact our Midwife Counsellor on 07876 475772 if you would like to talk with a midwife about your experience confidentially.
