"Thank you to the lovely team on Richmond ward"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

I have just spent two days in the emergency care department after being admitted for a serious throat abcess. This was my first inpatient stay in any hospital and I wasn't actually expecting to have to stay one, never mind two nights. I am writing review because I want to share how impressed I was by the staff on the Richmond ward at West Middx. I felt really well cared for by friendly and attentive staff in a clean, bright and spacious room. Some of the HCA were excellent - didn't they used to be called nurses? My consultant came promptly each morning to review my case with me and the staff, and was informed when they had concerns about my progress. It was a busy ward and emergency admissions are 24 hours so I found it difficult to sleep on the second night (wiped out by pain and medication first night so I was oblivious to noise) but accept this was inevitable in this environment. Its not intended for long stay and I was really glad to get home to my own bed today. My only complaint is the food. No-one asked about dietary restrictions. There was a menu so I was able to identify gluten free options but (as a nutritional therapist) I was really disappointed by the range and quality on food on offer. I believe good food is so important to recovery and health. Perhaps James Martin or Jamie Oliver could come in to help you to improve this as they have in other hospitals. I am happy to share my concerns in more detail if the hospital is interested.
