"all my care was very much appreciated"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Following a bladder stone removal at Lincoln County Hospital - where, incidentally, the care I received was first class - progress to 'normal' was preceding well, when a blockage occurred after approximately 4 days, obliging me to seek help at A&E Grantham. I was seen straight away on arrival (around 0900). A&E staff applied a catheter and relief was immediate! A few days later the catheter became blocked. and Grantham A&E again came to the rescue (at 0300 this time! ) and carried out an irrigation procedure where very small particles from the original stone procedure could be seen. Again the relief was immediate. Approximately 36 hours later I felt an 'incipient blockage' and to pre-empt further problems I again went to Grantham A&E (around 2200), where the staff carried out another irrigation procedure. The nurses and doctors involved were patient, caring and professional. They explained what was happening and what I might have to do in order to prevent further problems. Next day I approached Lincoln County Hospital and managed to get an immediate appointment with a urology nurse who to sorted out the immediate problem such that the next day I was functioning almost as normal. I am aware that some people for various reasons are critical of the NHS service, but my recent experience has made me a great admirer of the work done by the service. All the staff I met were clearly dedicated to the care and comfort of the patient. They did their best to maintain patient dignity and when appropriate displayed a good sense of humour. All much appreciated by me.

Thank you for your kind comments. We always try to treat people as we would want to be treated ourselves. It is always nice to hear we have got it right.
